The colors from the bright green leaves and the red orange ones made her feel relaxed as she followed along an old dirt path. As she walked, her boots made light impressions in the soft pale earth, barley even noticeable when it covered the light brown leather material. She walked along, her deep purple cloak swayed from her movement, hardly touching her ankles. The only thing that was relatively noticeable about her was the thick, long, golden braid that fell against the dark cloth of her cloak. It had grown to the point where even in a braid, it was down to he back of her knees however it barely passed her violet purple eyes. Lavender headphones rested around her neck and on top of her hood as she preferred to hear the beautiful songs on the birds in the trees over any music she had playing. She enjoyed the trees and animals. They never judged her and they remained quiet evermore except for making their natural music. Only a few could hear the whispers of the ancient trees that lingered still in the light rustle of their leaves when there was no wind. She was one of the few who still believed in the magicks that had existed still. She had too, it was in her veins.
Smiling, the girl looked up at the sky with her violet eyes, listening to the sounds all around her that she could as she followed down her chosen path through the forest. Birds were flying around merrily, playing, and whistling their lovely musical tunes in their flocks. The winds had a slight hint of blossoms from somewhere ahead of her.
'finally, spring is back. It's been a while since I could possibly enjoy the weather again.' she closed her eyes and let the sun peeking through the trees warm her face. She wanted this moment to last as long as the heavens would allow this time. Only a slight change of her facial expression was made when she remembered what happened last time when she wanted to just enjoy a simple spring.
'lets just hope this doesn't end me up on an another crazy adventure like last time did. Trying to get the winter goddess and the spring goddess to get along enough to have the weather change back to it's normal flow is not an easy task.' she sighed as she rubbed her forehead free of the worried lines before looking back ahead. She shook her head as she had slowly come to a stop, seeing a fork in the road ahead of her.
Most of her life, she had been alone and preferred it that way. No one was there to drag along and no one was there to bother her when she wanted peace. Any time she did run across someone to help them, she usually left after they were safe enough to be on their own. It was just her way, alone and in peace of nature. She lived like that for most of her life so it's what she was used to. So any complicated decisions like this were all on her own. She did not care where her paths lead her, as long as she can be on her own and live her life of wild adventures that she was used to. The breaks in the paths were nothing but two different ways her day and adventure could go.
The way to the next town was down the path to her right as the path that just continued on through the forest on her left. The forest path however seemed to get darker the further you tried to look down it, never really the best choice but the path less chosen by. There was a simple choice ahead of her but she didn't know that this choice was going to either make her life just the way it is now or make it harder but with more satisfaction. She crossed her arms and blew the stray strand of hair out of her face that had been pestering her for a little while now.
"well, should I take the forest path that seems t get even more eerie as I get further or the same old cheery one down into a safe town with Poachers possibly chasing me up and down who heck knows till I kick their butts. I don't know which one sounds less threatening." She rolled her eyes and went down the more shady looking path. She glanced around at her surroundings after she had traveled some and noticed how the trees started taking very twisted shapes and making even more twisted shadows beneath them from the setting sun. Their tops were so close together and were crowded to the point were the sun couldn't come through any longer, not even a peek. Bushes were growing thick and some of them had started to spill out onto the trail, everything a form of dark green or an odd gray-green color. There was no sounds coming from this forest any longer. No sweet chirp from birds, no gently rustles of the trees in the breeze, everything quite and eerie.
"huh. Nothing to creepy about these woods I suppose." she shrugged and continued along the darkening dirt path through the twisted trees and their dark trunks. Even with her more relaxed and stubborn attitude, she was still on her guard however, she had to be when she wasn't exactly human and there were things that would love to possess her for her gifts, both human and dark creatures alike.
Something crashed from the trees and into the bushes to her right. At an instant, she was at the bush, pointing a spear at it, eyes sharp and staring at the bush with deadly focus. Being able to manifest inanimate objects often came in handy at times, especially with weapons and food. Her special skill.
"Get up slowly." she commanded, her body ready to strike at any moment like a snake.
"Please don't hurt me! I've done nothing wrong!" a voice answered as a young man stood up, throwing his hands up with almost s frantic wave of them. He smiled innocently as he gave a nervous chuckle, his red hair shining in the waning sunlight with the odd leaf or two stuck in it. A black raven flew from out of the tree before landing on top of his head. "I'm just a little 'ol flute player, nothing more!" he said with a slight whimsical chime in his voice. The girl straitened up a little and looked at him suspiciously with an eyebrow raised but the spear she had created stayed in her grip tightly. He continued to smile innocently and scratched the back of his head with his right hand. She held the spear back up at him again, in reaction, his hands shot back up and waved frantically in the air around him. He looked scared but also carefree at the same time. The girl thought this reaction was odd coming from a simply dressed young man in the woods alone with a raven. He seemed almost too innocent for her liking.
"who are you exactly?" she questioned, looking at the odd covering over his right eye and purple markings on his left cheek. This made him seem even more strange in her eyes.
"Ah, I'm Leo Turner, the flute wanderer." he bowed slightly then stood back up. "its nice to meet you, umm, well who are you-"
"SHH!" she cut him off, looking behind her, sensing something from being on high alert.
'a dog?' she tilted her head with confusion and tried to squint her eyes more to see down the road better.
"heeey! I was only going to ask your name miss-" Leo was cut off from the girl tackling him into the darker part of the bushes near by suddenly to hide them away. The raven flew off with a loud caw back into the treetops.
"what was that fo-" Leo started to say with a pouting look before the girl covered his mouth with one hand while peeking out a small gap in between the bushes, crawling off the top of him. Leo just looked really confused but didn't seemed too bothered about anything and stared at ta lady bug crawling on a dark leaf.
"damn. Bounty hunters." she mumbled lowly, slowly moving her hand from the young man's mouth. Five scruffy looking men came into her view, some were talking in a different language. She cursed a little at her self for never paying attention when her mother was trying to teach them different languaged
'Elven? How would guys like that know how to speak it? I figured they were too dumb to figure out the old languages.' she thought to herself and tilted her head with curiosity but quickly looked back to the boy when he started to peek out and speak.
"Those guys were following me earlier after I had left the town. I hid in the trees to throw them off my trail before getting lost myself." He whispered, pointing them out from a small opening in the thicket.
"bounty hunters." the girl whispered to him as quietly as possible. "and keep your voice down. They can't hear us yet but they will be able too soon enough."
"bounty hunters? You mean I have a bounty on my head or something? I didn't think I was a bad person.” He frowned now, not liking the idea that he had done something bad.
"No, they are more like poachers rather than anything else. They hunt super naturals as a sport for their powers and turn them into the underground to get a heavy sum of money. Many rich people buy them off of the black market there to turn them into slaves or even treat them like objects.” she grit her teeth in annoyance from just the thought of it. “People love things that can make them what ever they want or even there in their palaces or fancy houses for show like faeries or even the cat people called Caits." The girl explained quietly. "they are the same group who's been tailing me for months now and check every town to see if I'm there. You'd think that they'd back off after last three times I've kicked their asses."
"You're a supernatural?" Leo's face brightened up almost instantly after hearing she wasn't normal, just like him.
"Sort of. I'm a free former, someone who can manifest inanimate things on whim. Anyone would kill for someone for control over these kind of powers but the key is getting to me." she smirked deviously from remembering all the other times she's made grown men look like pathetic school children with their faces in the dirt.
"huh. May I ask, what's your name?" Leo asked curiously, his head tilted to the side like an innocent puppy asking for scraps.
"oh, I'm Mii." the girl looked at Leo with her violet eyes.
"I know your you but what's your name?"
"It's Mii, as in M-I-I, not M-E." she looked down at the bramble under them, slightly annoyed and rubbing her temple. “what is it with people and not getting that?” she sighed.
"oooooh! Now I get it!" Leo nodded with a warm smile. "wait, where did Kuro go?"
"Kuro?" Mii looked back to him with a confused look on her face. "who the heck is Kuro? And keep quiet you idiot."
"Kuro is my friend, he was just here. He must have gotten scared when you tackled me into these bushes." Leo smiled and looked up to the tree tops. Mii just shook her head and kept an eye out on the men outside of the thicket, thinking that this man, no, boy was crazy. Leo silently fidgeted with a twig until he accidentally snapped it in between his fingers. Mii glared at him and he gave a nervous look from Mii's sudden deadly look.
“are you trying to get us killed you idiot?” she hiss at him lowly.
“s-sorry... I wasn't expecting it to break...” he looked down, once again, like a puppy that was being punished. She just sighed and shook her head, now feeling a little guilty for being mean to him.
“just don't do it again alright? We don't want to get caught by these guys. It would only end up being a pain in the ass trying to save us both.” she looked back to him with a sincere look. He was back to smiling up at her like a dog again.
“alright. I can be a good quite person.” he nodded until he was suddenly yanked back by the collar of his white shirt. Mii almost stood up almost as quickly once she saw him disappear, a spear quickly appearing back into her right hand. She was about to act until she was suddenly pulled backwards out the bush by her hair with a hard tug. She yelped and struggled but who ever it was had pinned her arms behind her with a tight grasp, her spear falling out of her hand and hitting the hard ground with a clang.
"looks like we lucked out boys!" a tall brown-haired guy man held Mii standing up by her hair, pulling on the base of her braid, letting one of her arms go. Mii flinched and glared at the men, trying not to let the pain show or bother her, a trick she had picked up to see if she could out toughen them. She looked over to one guy and formed a brick over his head and dropped it flat on his dome. He yelled out in pain as a thin line of blood began to trickle down the side of his face. She smiled a smug grin ended up receiving a slap to the side of her face from a man walking in front of her. She just looked at him with a glare that could rival Death's.
“your going to have to a lot more than just that to hurt me.” she taunted this blonde haired, brown eyed brute that looked like he ate too much meat and worked out way too hard to make up for the fact that he stayed about her height and not as tall as the others. He just gave her a hard look before sending his fist right into her left cheek. She made a small 'tsk' sound rather than letting out any sounds that it hurt. She just looked back at him before spitting the little blood in her mouth out onto the dirt.
“gonna have to try a lot harder than that you short meat head.” she tried to play it off even as her cheek started to swell and redden.
"you shouldn't hit a girl!" Leo yelled out to cut the blonde from hitting her again. He tried to look tough but he was cut short after he received his own hit to the face from the same person. He spat out the small amount of blood that filled his mouth with the taste of salt and rust before looking like he really wanted to cry. Mii mentally rolled her eyes, so much for the tough guy act.
"A free former and a magician! What do ya know!" a really tall black haired guy that almost resembled a human giant grabbed and held Leo above the ground buy the collar of his shirt, choking him almost now.
"leave him alone!" Mii tried to stomp on the man whom was holding her's foot to let her go but he managed to see it coming, probably used to it, and kicked the back of Mii's knees in with one easy swipe. She fell forwards but was pulled back up by her hair, yelping a little in pain as she felt some of her hair get pulled out of their follicles. However, she was more worried about Leo than herself. He seemed softer and less tolerant to such abuse.
"sir!" a boy ran up carrying a large bag on his back. He caught the attention of the Giant man and he turned to the boy. He flinched and stopped, a little scared from him obviously.
"s-sir! Night is falling, we should get camp set up now and cook the food before it goes bad." he panted and set the large, heavy bag down. The other brute dropped Leo finally after hearing the word 'food' onto the ground but he didn't get back up.
Mii watched as four more more men walked up, all of them dragging along different kinds of supernaturals. One of them that had caught Mii's eyes had brown wolf ears instead of human and a shaggy matching head of hair.
'Weren.' Mii thought to herself and made a mental note of it. She looked down at Leo who hadn't moved, she feared the worst for him and gritted her teeth, mad at herself cause she can't do anything about it.
"might as well, it is a lovely night to celebrate a good catch!" Meathead laughed as he looked down at Mii. She glared at him and spat a mixture of blood and saliva on his shoes.
"you assholes….. How can you honestly hurt innocent people!? We had done nothing wrong but you greedy pigs just have to screw everything up!" Mii glared at him hard. "why don't you get a bath seeing how you have sooo much money!" she remarked but it ended up with her getting slapped again, this time harder than before and on the same cheek she just had been punched previously. She felt her lip sting as it split and she felt something start trickling down the side of her chin
"brat." the guy commented back. "tie him up with her, if he's still alive that is." the guy barked out the command and started to walk over to an open spot in the road.. Mii grit her teeth and kicked the guy in front of her in the shin as hard as she could with the heel of her boot in protest to getting tied up. He fell to one knee with a gasp of pain. She smirked then something blunt hit her on the back of her head, hard. Mii's body slumped to the ground involuntarily, the guy who held her let go just to watch her slump onto the dirt. The back of her head throbbed badly as her vision started to blacken out. The last thing she heard was some of the guys laughing as if they just watched a cat get spooked and jumped into a tree.
As Mii slowly woke up, back of her head throbbing still from any slight movement, and she rolled her head on her shoulders to assess if there was any major damage to her despite the pain she felt. Neck still moved properly, fingers could still move fine but she felt ropes tight around her wrists, her arms were sore and she can feel a bruise the size of one of the men’s meaty hands staring to form on her upper arm. Sitting upright against a pole meant her back was fine. She glanced around and tried to move but she realized there was someone tied to her own ropes behind her. Mii turned her head to look as much as she could behind her the best she could in the darkness of nighttime.. The red hair glinted from the fire that wasn't too far away caught her eye. She knew it was Leo.
‘shoot… he’s alive but still out.’ Mii thought to herself with annoyance and a little in relief. She looked around to find the men sitting a few yards away around a large campfire about twenty yards away, leaving her and anyone else they have caught and tied up over in the cold darkness. She could smell the stew that was bubbling in a pot on the fire with bread already cut into large chunks. They were howling and laughing with their faces reddened with the liquor they had been drinking. She cringed when she overheard their plans for her and a few others they had caught two days before. Selling them in the black market for top dollar as if they were just some slaves they could auction off.
‘damn poachers. May every one of them get eaten by daemons.’ she cursed in her head until she spotted one of the poachers had her headphones on their fat head, bending them out of shape.
‘crap! Okay, I need to keep a calm mind.’ she closed her eyes and took a calming breath. ‘I cant let my powers get out of control, not again, not like last time.’ she opened her eyes again and tried to shake Leo awake with moving her own body but he didn’t even make a sound. Was he still alive? Mii started to actually feel worried for the first time in years but a small sigh that came from him set the fears to rest like water on a fire.
‘damn. They got him good. What the hell do I do now?’ she grit her teeth as she tried to piece together a plan to get away. She kept running into issues with it though, having an unconscious person to move making it hard for one person to plan an escape. Then it occurred to her. The others that were captured too.
Mii looked around a little more to see how many of them there really were captured the best she could with the little light from the fire and tiny bit of moonlight that passed down upon them. It made it easier once her eyes were adjusted to the little light she had to work with. She could easily pick out a scared looking young male, 14 at least. The distinctive white and black tipped cat ears and flickering tail made it obvious on what he was, a Cait, a part human and part cat being. His light blue hair with an odd white streak on the left side stood out as much as Leo’s red hair would in the dork or light. He was awake but his hands were tied together in front of him as for his legs they were tightly bound by thick rope all the way from his ankles to his knees, covering the fact almost that he was wearing pants. He was looking around a everything quickly with his pink eyes, scared, a dark bruise visible on his left cheek from some sort of hit. He clearly wanted to escape no matter what it took. There was an even younger looking girl next to him, at least 10, with long black hair flecked with what looked like glinting gold. Her pale skin was dirtied and scratched up along with what was a beautiful white, silk dress but Mii could see the nearly transparent pair of wings behind her back, she was tied up in a similar fashion as the boy. A fairy was among them as well and being tied up like that made her flying off not an option. She just looked annoyed and ready to go when she saw the chance to.
“Looks like the little sparrow is awake.” the tall brown haired man smirked down at Mii, his voice nearly startling her and disrupting her thoughts. She just went and glared up at him when he started waving a leg of meat in front of her that was still sizzling from being on the fire. “too bad you cant have any of this food. don’t need you to have the strength to escape now do we.” he laughed then walked back over to his gang who were all now laughing. She watched him as he wobbled his way over to a tree stump but then smirked when she changed the stump into a pile of fine sand. He went to sit but ended up getting sand all over himself and the guy next to him before he fell over on to his back. He jumped back up and looked around quickly with his eyes furious in the darkness but only saw Mii grinning there in faint light.
“can't damage your goods any more than you have or you'll lose money.” Mii spoke with a snarky tone, giving a small laugh of her own when she saw the anger in his eyes flicker. She knew she was right and he couldn't touch her. He just cursed and moved over to the large log, pushing the younger boy off before he sat down on the spot, upset that he can't go and hurt her any more and taking it out on him. The boy just got back up and brushed himself off with a sad look before his eyes met Mii’s.
He had a mix of emotions on his dirty face as if he had pity and felt bad for them but also was raised differently and treat them like they were lower than he was. However, Mii could see the sadness in his eyes, even as he turned away from them. She sighed, hoping he would have done something to help her situation, anything at all that would give her an edge. Sure enough he didn’t but she couldn’t blame him. He was raised to think like that and to treat people like them in such a way. If he tried to have pity or even go and treat them the tiniest bit better, he'd get punished for it, it was obvious that he's made that mistake a few times already. He looked skinny as if they didn't feed him enough or starve him as a form of punishment. It pissed her off that they'd do that to an orphaned child and try to make them another Poacher. He could have grown up to be a better kid, maybe make a fine doctor, something that lead him to helping others. Mii just sighed and put her head back against the wooden stake. They were sure enough to fall asleep soon with their drinks taking a toll on them. Hopefully before the feelings she hasn't felt for others in a long while want to surface and force her to make a move she'd regret doing.
As she had expected, the moon was high in the night sky when they had slowly fell over one by one, even the young boy had gone and curled up close to the fire. Mii took a deep breath and took in the cool night air as she tried to focus her power through her groggy mind and hungry body. Making a metal knife sharp enough to actually cut took some work when she was tired. Even more work to have it form into her hands that were tied together. She closed her eyes as she exhaled slowly but was startled when she heard a small rustle in the bushes to her left.
Mii's eyes shot open as she looked over and saw the little cait boy looking over at something that was in the dark behind him. He was smiling and his eyes changed from scared to hopeful, tail flickering with excitement. She tilted her head in confusion as a pair of large green eyes shined in the moonlight like a cat's would in little light, everything else about them hidden in the darkness of the bushes. The boy smiled and his tail flickered faster but then he looked to Mii with a surprised look, noticing that she was seeing it too, and staring at them. The body stood up that the green eyes belonged to. His hair looked odd in the dark but Mii could tell it was also two different colors just like the young cait’s but this person looked like an older male, dark ears twitching in the night, listening in on the sounds around. He looked over to Mii with a curious look but then knelt down to cut the bonds on the younger cait’s legs and then his arms. After he freed the young cat boy, he stood up and tossed the knife he was using towards Mii, making sure it slid near within her reach.
“make sure you get everyone out of here too.” the older one spoke after he tossed the knife towards her. She glanced down to it then back up but they were instantly gone in the dark just as silently as he had shown up, making her create a mental not to never make an adult Cait mad.
After they were gone, Mii struggled a little but she managed to pick up the knife that was so kindly given to her. She decided as she slowly cut her own ropes that she had to thank them if she ever came across them on her travels. Mii made sure no one was looking her way or even awake when she cut the ropes to her ankles. They fell to the ground, making almost no noise before she went to cut off Leo’s bonds, and hopefully wake him up too. The fairy had become alerted to Mii's movement and sat up fully the best she could, hoping that she was going to be freed as well.
“come on boy,” Mii mumbled down into Leo's ear, trying to keep it at a whisper. “time to wake up and get out of here.” she shook him more now after all his ropes were cut but still got no response except that he fell over on his side. “damn they got you good. It‘s time to wake” Mii kept trying to wake the log of a man until a noise from behind her caused her to quickly turn around, a fist formed with one hand, knife at the ready in the other. The younger boy jumped as he made eye contact with her, dropping a small blade on to the hard earth, both freezing when they heard one of the poachers snort but he rolled over and was still out like a light. He looked scared and surprised to see her free on her own but she just gave him a small smile to relax him the best she could. Children were never really her best strong suit, especially with her tough attitude.
“I-I was going to help you.” he said quietly and went to pick the knife back up as quietly as possible and return it to it's little sheath at his belt. Mii watched him carefully but then gave a small nod when she decided that he wasn’t a threat. He just gave a small smile when he noticed she was accepting his help and walked over towards her so they could whisper to each other. After all, if they both were caught, they'd both be dead.
“start with the fairy then. I’m trying to wake him up.” she whispered to him and started to smack Leo's cheek. The Kid nodded and ran over to the scared fairy who wasn't quite so easy on accepting his help but ended up holding her tied up arms over to him.
“Leo. Wake your red headed butt up.” she continued to try to get him up as the boy finished cutting out the fairy from what tied her down. She blinked her big blue eyes to him and to Mii, giving a small nod before flying away quickly, going back to where ever she had been taken from. Mii sighed and created some water, using a little of the last remaining energy she had left, dropping it on Leo’s face. He jumped up quickly while flailing his arms.
“I didn’t touch the candy I swear!” Leo shouted as he sat up quickly but Mii clamped a hand over his mouth hard with a glare before glancing over to the sleeping men. Two guys rolled over but one sat up slowly and looked in their direction hazily. He blinked for a moment before processing what was going on and yelled out a command in a different language and they all started to get up quickly to the alarm. They were slow however thanks to their drunkenness.
“crap. We’ve got company.” Mii half smiled awkwardly as they all started to stand. Leo just blinked and slowly stood, his body still feeling weak and wobbly from being choked out earlier. One guy had already started running towards her, brandishing a knife in the air. Mii waited for the guy to get closer, she easily dodged his attack, spun around and slammed him into the ground hard, using his arm then pushed on it until it made a sickening popping sound. The guy howled in pain as he crumbled and tried to move away from her with a fearful look. She just huffed and flipped her braid back over her shoulder before Leo picked up the knife, looking scared but he wanted to go protected the scared little boy that was standing there. After the first man went down, three guys ran up, one faster than the others. Mii smirked then twirled a newly manifested wooden staff, the last of her energy she had for her powers used up to make it.
“i'd much rather have a metal one but this will do. Next, its you.” she readied herself for her strike in a defensive stance. The first guy ran up, swinging a club down towards her head. She dodged it with ease from a simple step backwards before she stepped on the club when it hit the ground, then practically walked up on his head then leaped off it as he fell forwards from the momentum of her legs pushing his head down. She landed on her two feet, the heels on her boots making a clicking noise on the hard ground as the man laid on the ground with his behind stuck up in the air.
Leo panicked and he jumped out of the way as a man tried to attack him. Leo started to run but he suddenly stopped and turned to his attacker and ran at him with a change of expression. Mii glanced over to him, sensing something different about him out of no where but she had to quickly put her mind back on her fight, barley dodging an attack but she countered by swinging the staff and smacking him hard behind the knees. He fell forwards towards her and she jumped out of the way and jabbed the end of the staff in the side of his neck. He went down with a thud, out cold almost instantly. Mii turned to face her third and final attacker with a fierce glare. He looked at her then stopped dead in his tracks, knowing he was outmatched. She huffed and turned around, knowing the others wouldn't even bother trying to attack her, learning their lesson about that years ago.
“Leo! Get off of him and lets get out of here.” she raised an eyebrow as she saw Leo sitting on a man with one of his fists red and the man unconscious. Leo looked really confused but quickly got off of him and picked up the little boy. He didn't seem to mind at all and just held onto Leo, knowing he'd be killed for helping them if he stayed.
“how did I-” he started to say before the last two men got up and grabbed a gun from a sack near by.
“uh-oh, time to go!” Mii held her hand out towards Leo as she started running in his direction. “lets go!”
Leo took Mii’s hand and she pulled along as a shot barley missed Mii’s leg. She jumped somewhat as Leo ducked from the next loud shot. Mii just continued to lead them running into the forest until the shots were barley heard in the distance. She eventually stopped to take a breather when the shots stopped all together and the voices had disappeared. Even if they were to follow, the forest can lead them in many different directions. Mii leaned against a tree, breathing hard, the night air felt really cool against her sweat covered forehead. Running on an empty stomach was not the best of her ideas but she didn't really have a choice in the matter.
“Why did you help me?” Leo asked, catching his breath as he sat down on a near by rock, face flushed red from running. The boy stood near by before he ran over to a near by creek to get water for the two of them.
“Well,” Mii tossed her long braid behind her and looked around as she usually did, catching her breath after a moment. “why not? Why should I leave you to capture and save only myself? I’m not that self centered.” she shot a half smile in Leo’s direction. “supernaturals and unnatural people are dying off now a days so we have to look out after each other.” she stood back up fully after her breathing evened out enough. Leo stood there, still confused.
“but I still don’t understand why.” He tilted his head, looking up to Mii like a confused puppy. Mii looked up at the night sky then then looked to Leo again.
“does anybody really need a reason to do good for someone else foolish boy?” she laughed lightly to herself as she walked over to see where the boy was getting water into a canteen, smiling. She looked happy that this boy can have a different future than what he could have ended up with those men. Maybe he was going to be a doctor, or even a police man. Leo looked up at the stars for a moment thoughtfully then went to her side.
“you have a lot more of a softer side than you usually let on, don't ya?” he smiled over to her when he noticed the more relieved look on Mii's face. She just looked over to him with a slight smile on.
“I have no idea what your talking about.” she chuckled lightly and looked back to the boy who was now distracted by a frog.
“uh huuuuuhh. Well personally, I like this Mii much better than the one I met first. I mean, it's obvious that your a good person. You didn't even kill no one back there when you had the chance to.” he nodded and looked to Mii curiously.
“well it's a whole package deal there Leo. You just gotta deal with it and I just prefer not to kill. Not my style there. I'd rather save people and do as little damage to others as I can” she smirked and turned away to find some way to make a camp. Leo just chuckled lightly and went to catch frogs with the boy for a little while.
They slept pretty well through the night, Mii had stayed close to the boy though, feeling like she had to protect this young one and protect his future. Who knows, maybe she'd make a pretty good mother one day. The thought though never really crossed her mind at all. In the early morning though, the three had left to find a town somewhere ahead and hopefully find good food and an easy place to rest with no fears of poachers coming after them now. After all, getting your butt handed to you four times by the same woman is a pretty good reason to just give up and search somewhere else.
“Why are you still following me?” Mii asked into the open space as she walked along a stone path in the morning sun. It had been four days since they had been captured and escaped. They had left the young boy in the next town they reached, leaving him in the care of a police officer and his wife doctor. Mii knew he was going to be alright and safe after then and just went to continue on her way. However, she knew that she wasn't alone anymore the entire time, even after she also tried to ditch Leo.
It stayed quiet for a moment until she heard someone drop from the tree to her left into some bushes near by. Leo rustled in them for a moment before standing up out of the bushes, brushing some leaves and yellow grasses off his black pants.
“you knew I was following you? Huh, you’re a lot better than I thought miss Mii!” he smiled and walked out the shrubs towards her before giving a pat to her head. She just pushed his hand away from her.
“Seriously Leo, why? Its weird having a stalker without knowing why. And don't touch me or you'll lose your hand.” Mii turned to him with a blank look, unimpressed.
“I just wanted to know why you put yourself in clear danger just to help me.” He brushed off his tan colored coat that he picked up in the town before they left. “most humans have some sort of beneficial reasons like money.”
“I don’t care for money.” Mii turned around and starting walking forward again along the path. The white stones made noise under her boot‘s heels. Leo stood there for a minute, still confused, then caught back up to Mii, walking along side her. The sun shined down on the two of them, making Leo's hair turn almost orange and Mii's hair seemed more golden.
“I choose to help others if they need it, I ask for nothing in return because it isn’t right. I’ve got these powers, might as well do something to help others with their problems.” Mii looked ahead. “why shouldn’t someone do something kind for someone else? Especially when it‘s you kind that really needs it.”
“huh.” Leo looked up at the sky and thought for a moment. “you must have a lot of human friends then, no?” he tilted his head, looking down at Mii with a small smile. She just sighed and shook her head, not understanding him.
“I don’t stick around too long to make friends with anyone. I don’t want them to get harmed for knowing a supernatural like me.” Mii continued walking in silence. Leo followed, walking next to her, then sighed.
“you humans are confusing.” Leo said out loud and Mii looked up at him with an eyebrow raised. He just simply smiled and continued to walked forward.
“all the emotions you humans go through confuses me a lot. I don’t understand them at all. So, I’m going to stick with you, traveling around and try to learn what they are!” He smiled widely and pulled out his flute. “I’m a traveling flute player anyway so it really wont matter to me~!”
Mii stopped in her tracks and looked at him oddly, head tilted.
‘he is a strange one alright. And what’s with this human thing? doesn’t he know he’s one too?’ her eyebrows furrowed with confusion. ‘what harm could it do, having him around that is.’ she continued onward with a shrug. She honestly really didn't care if he tagged along at all, she just hoped he wouldn't be a pain. Leo was walking around happily ahead, peeking into bushes, and playing with a bunch of butterflies that came across their paths. She just kept walking with a sigh, ignoring Leo‘s childish actions, however the butterflies were following her and not just fluttering by. Leo stopped and remembered something his parents had said about their magicks any why they appeared out of nowhere:
“Butterflies in this world are different to our kind, they only show to those with a pure heart and they will follow them. Most humans don’t remember this because they have lost their imagination for the supernatural and the beauty of magic. Only a few pure hearted humans believe, and so the butterflies will follow.” Leo tilted his head as he watched their blue and violet wings flutter around her even as she walked away from them.
“well it makes sense, I guess.” he mumbled to himself and looked to the ground in a confused thought. He had noticed that Mii really did have a warmer, kinder side she hid away for some reason. It confused him but he felt like he had to follow her for some reason. He wanted to see more of that nice side and learn more about her.
“Are you coming or what!?” Mii yelled from a distance. “I’ll leave you here!” Leo blinked and noticed that Mii was far ahead. She had stopped and was looked back to him with a hand on her hip.
“hey! Why do you walk so fast!?” Leo took off to catch up to her with a smile. “it's no fair if you don't tell me that we are walking!”
‘definitely an odd one.’ Mii shook her head and walked on with her new companion catching up and on to a different future than she really had planned. With this man though, she felt her other side stirring and wanting to show up no matter how much she wanted to suppress it. This was going to be a long and interesting adventure with this young man. More than she had expected to.
